Alyssa's Week

sequins from www.alyssaandcarla.com

“I am up to my ears in sequins!  We got a big order from our Etsy shop for gold sequined swizzle sticks and I’ve been working on them this week.  It’s been interesting to see where these little shiny rounds turn up; so far I’ve found them in my shoes (we don’t wear shoes in the house), stuck to my elbows and in the refrigerator.  But it’s worth it to think about how these guys will liven up the party!”

*We all grew up with the art of Maurice Sendrak, and I just love this peek at his illustrations for William Blake’s Songs of Innocence.

*Brilliant.  Make a variety pack of muffins by adding different components directly to each muffin in the tin.  Just use this neutral base and add your own combinations of fruits, nuts, chocolate, etc!

*I have long been in love with the prints from Marimekko, but simply can’t justify spending the money (Ask Carla: we had a moment in the Marimekko store here in Tokyo where neither of us could convince ourselves to spend $30 on a single potholder, no matter how gorgeous it was. And we’re really good at talking each other into spending money…).  But NOW I can bring some of the print into my home, even if it is disposable!  Can I frame these, perhaps? 😉

Carla's Week

Carla's Weekly Love Letter for 6.13.14“And we’re off!  You might remember that my family rents a house in North Lake Tahoe every summer, and this is the lucky weekend!  I can’t wait to sit on the beach, read some novels and play some cards.  I wish I could tell you that the mini cooler above is representative of my packing, but… I can’t.  SO MUCH STUFF.  It’s as though I forget Lake Tahoe has grocery stores too.”

* Do you ever paint furniture?  This one seemingly obvious (and thus AWESOME) tip will help you get the best finish possible.

*I can’t get enough of Mrs. Meyer’s Hand Soap- especially in the Honeysuckle or Geranium scents, but those bottles sure do add up when you’re washing you’re hands constantly!  Vanilla and Lace created a great tutorial to make a WHOLE GALLON out of one bar.  AMAZING.

*If you’ve still got a graduation or other special ceremony coming up, try this DIY Money Necklace!  It’s one of the prettiest I’ve seen and no one will be sad to receive it.  (I’m saving this one for next year’s rounds of niece and nephew birthdays!)
