Cookbook: The Perfect Egg

by Carla

Cookbook: The Perfect Egg | Alyssa & Carla

I think I found my new favorite cookbook.  Based on the photo of that pretty, pretty book up there, I’m betting it’s not a surprise at all.

I’ve had my eye on this particular book since it was released for a few reasons:

1. I love eggs.  In every possible way.  Fry them, boil them, scramble them.  I like eggy recipes.  I like looking at eggs.  Heck, I even like breaking them.

2. I really love the authors.  (Teri and Jenny from Spoon Fork Bacon.)  Their other book Tiny Food Party is beautifully done and full of great recipes that I’ve added to my ongoing rotation- anyone who make tiny onion rings with shallots gets a huge thumbs up from me.

3. I totally judged a book by its cover.

The nice part is that I was right on all counts.  It *is* a book for folks who love eggs.  It’s also a book for those who like eggs enough and just want to spice up meals with complimentary ingredients.  I tried three of the frittata options (wild mushroom/goat cheese, pancetta/caramelized onion, and spinach/feta) and was excited by each and every one.

Don’t think for a moment that it’s all about breakfast though- there’s plenty of recipes for creating dinner meals and desserts.  My next recipe?  These beignets, obviously.

For this weekend’s family brunch, I made three batches of deviled eggs: regular, sriracha/black pepper and pancetta/shallot.  You know why I don’t have a photo?  Because they were gone too fast.  True story.  (The one tiny miss in my deviled egg making: the sriracha yolk mixture ended up a bit runny, but firmed up decently in the refrigerator.  Next time, I’ll leave out a bit of the mayo to prevent that from happening.)

Here’s why you should buy this book for yourself (or maybe a very lucky friend?):

– You love eggs.

– You love learning about versatile ingredients.

–  You want to know what to do with a common pantry ingredient that will blow away your family and friends.

– You like pretty pictures.

All in all: a completely accessible cookbook that’s perfect for any level of cook.

I received The Perfect Egg from Blogging for Books for this review.  Thanks for reading! 🙂
