DIY Upcycled Striped Top (with Eyelet!)

by Carla

I don’t want to give you guys the wrong impression, but I own about 16 striped tops.  I maintain that they’re DIFFERENT and that I NEED that many versions.  They vary by color and stripe width and sleeve length.  Plus, I like stripes!  (STOP JUDGING ME.) I was placing an online order recently and needed just one more item for free shipping and after lots of searching I chose… a striped top.  Online.  In a “tunic” shape.  It arrived and I liked it enough, but it just wasn’t very special.  Which made it the perfect candidate for a little DIY action: Upcycled Striped Top from www.alyssaandcarla.com Eyelet’s pretty, isn’t it?  I’m not trying to develop another wardrobe obsession, but if I were I’m PRETTY SURE it would be for eyelet… Supplies for this upcycled top: Upcycled Striped Top from www.alyssaandcarla.com– the top you’d like to upcycle

– fabric glue

– eyelet ribbon

– scrap paper/newspaper

First, place some scrap paper between your two layers of the top to prevent any glue from passing through.  Cut a length of eyelet equal to the width of the bottom hem on the front of your top. Apply about a two inch strip of glue along the bottom hem of the top, starting at the side seam. Upcycled Striped Top from www.alyssaandcarla.com Firmly press your eyelet ribbon right on top of the glue. Upcycled Striped Top from www.alyssaandcarla.com Continue along the bottom hem until you hit the side seam.  I only wanted to apply the eyelet to the front of the shirt to avoid adding extra bulk/accenting to the bum area in the back. Allow to dry (per fabric glue instructions). Upcycled Striped Top from www.alyssaandcarla.com   It’s such a pretty edge and looks so great on the striped top!  Next time (there will ABSOLUTELY be a next time), I’ll probably use an even wider eyelet ribbon to make it super noticeable. It’s amazing how the detail transformed my opinion of the shirt.  Just look how fun it is! Upcycled Striped Top from www.alyssaandcarla.com
