DIY Watercolor Cards

by Carla

Have you heard of DarbySmart?  I’m betting if you’re a crafter, you’ve heard something about this fun little company.  The site devotes itself to creating craft kits (and selling supplies) that make it uber simple for you to create some of the best projects around.  When I heard that our friend Laura (artist extraordinaire) had

Weekly Love Letter for Friday, October 31st

by Alyssa

[ezcol_1half] “Today is such a fantastic day! It’s one of my favorite holidays, Halloween, and even better: MY MOM IS ARRIVING IN TOKYO! All by herself! She’s being so brave in taking the long trek alone, and I’m super proud of her. It can be pretty intimidating, and I can’t believe she’s going for it.

Freezer List, With or Without a Silhouette

by Alyssa

I cleaned out my freezer the other day, nearly crying as I threw away countless things that I’d forgotten were in there.  Freezer-burned steaks, ice cream well past it’s expiration date, the rice to make mango sticky rice that I’d brought back from Thailand (ALMOST TWO YEARS AGO!).  It was a bloodbath, and I felt so wasteful.

Apple Cider & Ginger Beer Poached Pears (and Vanilla Bean Rice Pudding)

by Alyssa

Apples and pumpkins seem to get a lot of hype this time of year.  But now is the perfect time to start using pears in your recipes as well!  One of the things that I love about pears is how versatile they are.  You can eat them fresh when they’re perfectly ripe, on their own

Mandarin Oranges with Dark Chocolate and Sea Salt

by Alyssa

It’s not really fair to call this a recipe.  It’s more like a set of very, very easy instructions to help you make an incredibly quick and slightly fancy dessert.  Or a very fancy afternoon snack. I taught the most delightful cooking class out of our apartment yesterday.  The “student” brought her adorable, 3 year old

Spicy Black Bean and Corn Soup

by Carla

I’ve never been a big fan of bringing lunch with me to work.  Oh, sure, I’ve had those moments where I convince myself I can save $5000 before Christmas because some misguided article told me all it would take were bag lunches, using hotel shampoo and filling up my gas tank at night!  That’s not

Weekly Love Letter for Friday, October 17th 2014

by Alyssa

[ezcol_1half] “A busy but fun week.  My parents met us in New York, and we went to the Statue of Liberty. My husband and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary. We were flying for most of it, but that just gave us an excuse to celebrate it all week!  I made lots of delicious treats
