Watermelon Ice Cubes

by Alyssa

Fun fact #1: Watermelon is 92% water.

Fun fact #2: They grow SQUARE WATERMELONS in Japan. The average Japanese fridge is so small that it can’t really house a full watermelon, so they grow small square ones that you can easily store in your fridge! They’re not VERY common, because most people just buy pre-sliced watermelon and eat it right away. But still, doesn’t it make you happy to know that square watermelons exist?

Fun fact #3: Today is National Watermelon Day! Izze sent us some of their delicious organic Raspberry Watermelon Sparkling Water to celebrate National Watermelon Day, and we couldn’t help but toss a few pink watermelon ice cubes in and garnish with some vibrant mint. Add a fun straw to make it extra-festive and colorful!

It’s really simple to make watermelon ice cubes. You can use a melon baller to scoop little balls out of the watermelon, like we did. Or you can simply cut the melon into bite-sized pieces. Spread them in a single layer (not touching each other) on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper, then freeze for a few hours until solid. Once they’re frozen through, you can store them in a plastic bag or an airtight container in the freezer and use as needed.

When you add them to your drink, they’ll slowly add a subtle watermelon flavor and you have a delicious, semi-frozen treat to consume at the end of your beverage! They make the Izze Raspberry Watermelon Sparkling Water a little extra watermelon-y (new word!), but they also perk up in plain water, sparkling water, cocktails, and even fruit juices.

Love this way to infuse flavor while also chilling your drink down! (Also I’m pretty sure Zoella will love teething on watermelon ice cubes now…)
