Every summer, my sisters and I rent a house in North Lake Tahoe and take all their kids up for a few nights of fun and relaxation. The event is the brainchild of one of my sisters, who took her boys up one summer and got them started early on a love of hot tubs and getting tired digging holes in sand. We’ve yet to find “our” rental and have switched around to a few different houses on VRBO.com looking for just the right fit. This year we were able to rent from some new family friends and maybe this property will stick!
One of the best nights of the trip is smores night. The plan has ranged from smores on a pit in the backyard (good, but I get needlessly antsy about charred food, plus the chocolate doesn’t melt) to microwaved smores (MY FAVORITE KIND – the marshmallow gets gooey and the chocolate melts perfectly onto the graham cracker). But this year, I’d love to plan a little evening beach gathering.
Smores Plan: SMORES RICE KRISPIE TREATS. Just the name creates joy in my heart.
Drink Plan: Cold milk with Chocolate Magic Milk Straws
Beach Fun: Sparklers. And a game of tag.
Since the lake gets breezy in the evenings, I’ll be wearing my most favorite summer outfit combo: white shorts and a navy sweater. (It’s Tahoe. I can wear shorts in Tahoe.)
Gap Luxlight Crew Pullover. I already own this exact sweater in v-neck, crew and cardigan versions (different colors, of course). The draw is the addition of silk to the fabric blend, which makes these soft and cozy, just how I like ’em.
Gap Boyfriend Roll-Up Shorts. An 10-inch inseam unrolled? UNHEARD OF. Sign me up!
Promise I’m not wearing those tan heels. I’m more Saltwater Sandals than Candies. (I did not expect to discover that Candies were still made. And then I find out Carly Rae Jepsen is their current spokesperson. How unexpectedly hip with the younger crowd!)
Just one more thing: a cozy blanket ready for sitting and watching the stars come out.
I can’t wait.
