Raspberry & Chocolate Beer Cocktail

February 10, 2014 by Alyssa

raspberry and chocolate beer cocktail by www.alyssaandcarla.com

I’m a sucker for champagne and champagne cocktails.  My husband will drink it with me, but it’s not his favorite beverage.  And while I fully intend to partake in lots of bubbly this Valentine’s Day, I wanted to come up with a cocktail that both of us would like to drink.  A beer cocktail was my first thought.

This cocktail has the bubbles that I love, but they come from beer instead of sparkling wine.  I used a dark, chocolate-y beer and added some fruity raspberry liqueur.  Top with a splash of cream to make it extra-decadent, and this drink is a fantastic treat.

The beer is definitely the strongest flavor in the cocktail, so make sure you pick one that you like and would drink on its own.  I used a Japanese chocolate malt beer from Kamakura called “My Funny Valentine,” which isn’t amazing.  If I were in the States I would probably use Rogue Ale’s Chocolate Stout.

Also, if you like the washi tape swizzle stick, you should enter our Tokyo Giveaway!  We’ve included some really great washi tape as well as a bunch of other fantastic Tokyo-based goods!

Ingredients
  1. 1 can or bottle of chocolate-y beer, such as a chocolate stout or chocolate malt beer (I used a Japanese chocolate malt beer from Kamakura called "My Funny Valentine," but if I were in The States I would probably use Rogue Ale's Chocolate Stout)
  2. Raspberry liqueur, such as Chambord
  3. Heavy whipping cream (or half and half would work, too)
  4. optional garnish: chocolate shavings
Instructions
  1. Divide the beer into 2 glasses. Add a generous splash of raspberry liqueur to each glass. Top with a touch of heavy cream. Gently stir with a spoon and top with chocolate shavings.
Notes
  1. Strawberry liqueur would probably be fantastic instead of raspberry, if you have that on hand.
